On Thursday night we honoured our 5th set of grantees

On Thursday night we honoured our 5th set of grantees. This time we were thrilled to have 6 new grantees and 1 re-grant. There was some extraordinary talent again amongst this group, and the way the group conducted themselves was impressive. They showed poise, leadership and gratitude, qualities that will serve them and our community well in the future.

Our grantees this round were:

Kobe Miller – Rowing

Ethan Batt – Road Cycling

Lucy Harman – Cross Country Running

Jack Bugler- Para Swimming

Shannon McLean – Delegate for UN Youth Global

George Glover - Swimming

Quin Udy – Re-grant Squash

We were very fortunate to have Bradley Hook, the CEO of the Resilience foundation NZ as our keynote speaker.Resilience is a word that you hear a lot these days, in sport, the workplace and in our schools, and it’s something we are told we need to cultivate both in ourselves and our children.

Bradley spoke of the ability to bounce back, the importance of breath, being present and awareness of the mind monkey – for every negative thought we need 5 to bring ourselves into a positive frame of mind because the natural default of our makeup is to be negative (side note – its an evolution thing – it keeps us alive). One of the greatest tools Brad talked about was the importance of taking a breath. We have all been in the situation when that email comes in and we fire up and send off a response, and then experience regret.Taking a breath could be a career enhancing decision! The good thing about resilience is it can be learnt and its like fitness the more you do it the better you will be at it.

We also welcomed another ambassador to our foundation – welcome Craig Harper, its good to have you on board helping inspire our Marlborough youth.

Again it was another wonderful uplifting evening, and we look forward to the next grantee ceremony in May 2020.
