Erin started skating when she was 7 years old in a pair of borrowed skates. Her mother was afraid of how fast she was going so took her to the local rink so she could learn how to stop; the rest, as they say, is history. Erin attended her first National competition in speed skating later that year. In 2018 and 2019 she made the NZ Oceania team and at the 2019 competition she won her first individual medal. The 2020 Oceania competition was cancelled because of Covid, but Erin still won Best Overall at Nationals and made the Worlds team. Her coach speaks of her dedication to the sport and determination to succeed and of her generosity to younger members of the club. Eventually Erin aspires to win the overall trophy at Oceania’s, make the Junior Worlds team and get a top 10 placing. She would also like to skate in the Berlin Marathon.
