Aged 17, Hamuera has been competitively boxing for 6 years; representing Canterbury since 2017 and achieving #1 nationally in his age and weight category for the last 4 years. Recognised for his leadership skills, Hamuera has been a Canterbury Boxing Team Captain and was selected for a High Performance NZ Athlete Pilot being trialled for the 1st time in NZ. Following his dad and uncle who were both successful boxers, Hamuera had to overcome many defeats in his first year, but just kept persevering to build skill and tactics. Ultimately focused on the Commonwealth Games and Olympics, this Grant helps Hamuera compete at the Serbian Youth Golden Gloves then the Youth Worlds in Spain as the next step in his rise to the top.
