Environment and Agriculture

  1. Grantee | November 2024

Hannah has always been interested in the world around her, animals and the environment. One of her earliest memories was being introduced to Fern the Falcon at Renwick School. Her passions for wildlife and conservation led her to completing a Bachelor of Science (Zoology) degree in 2023. As a Marlburian she has been privileged to have the Sounds and Nelson Lakes as her backyard and classroom. Growing up in rural New Zealand has shaped the way Hannah sees the environment and she is very focused on a career that involves preserving the Kaitiakitanga of our environment. She has watched our local rivers become contaminated with didymo and feels strongly about helping provide solutions to important environmental issues. In her year 13 Environmental Sustainability class, she completed a project looking at ways of improving wastewater management process at Yealands Winery. She then presented her ideas to the environmental managers at Yealands which resulted in them including some of these ideas in their Seaview Master Plan.
