Having played piano, violin and cello, by the time he was 10, Lewis found his passion in the trumpet. Now 18, Lewis has been a standout musician in numerous instrumental ensembles and choirs – successfully performing and competing nationally against much older musicians. From the school orchestra, Big Band, and a quartet to name a few including an internship for the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. Lewis is now studying trumpet at Victoria University. This Grant will enable him to purchase an instrument to expand his repertoire towards post-graduate study in classical performance trumpet and ultimately an international career.
