Maddy developed her love of journalism and writing through a media studies course in year 11. She currently is at the University of Canterbury doing a Bachelor of Communication and majoring in journalism. In 2022 Maddy was the top Journalism student at the University of Canterbury and in 2023 was one of two students selected to intern at The Press, where one of her stories made the front page. Maddy has been awarded the Asia New Zealand Foundation scholarship to study and intern at a newspaper in Jakarta, Indonesia for two months in 2024. Her grant will contribute to the cost of camera equipment needed to complete the internship. Maddy is clearly a journalist with integrity and compassion. In the future Maddy would like to work for The Independent or The Guardian in London as a foreign correspondent working in war torn countries.
