Ryan discovered a passion for running after coming 3rd in the 2015 Witherlea School Cross Country. He promptly joined a local running group and in 2016 he won the Witherlea School Cross Country and the Marlborough School’s Cross County. In Year 8 he was introduced to Triathlons and loved the combination of disciplines involved. Since then Ryan has had much success at Regional and National level including 1st place in the Under 19 NZ Schools Triathlon Champs 2021 (Tag Team event) in 2021, 1st in the Mount Vernon Traverse and the King of the Withers and culminating in a 1st place at the 2022 NZ Secondary Schools U19 Triathlon Champs (aged 16 years). As well as being “gifted with a fast set of legs”, Ryan’s coaches and mentors comment on his fantastic work ethic and mental resilience, both essential to continue to perform well in his chosen field. Long term Ryan would like to participate in the World Triathlon Champs and go professional in either Triathlon or Adventure Racing.
